人类最早使用铸造金属的记载已经模糊不清了，但我们可以这样推测：早期的狩猎者们围坐在火边，一块铜块落进了煤炭里，铜块熔化并流淌，像一股闪光的小溪流，一旦冷却，这个闪光的重物体就变得很硬，形成了新的形状。 很可能早期人们看到这种现象反复发生，然后他们寻找、收集铜块，把它们扔到火里，看那些闪光的溪流慢慢流出。一些人想象并在沙地上面出一个形状，让金属流进去，也许就变成了一个矛尖。从那以后，金属铸造经历了几十个世纪直到今天。
